LIVIA OVERTON
"COMMEMORATION"
This look is a commemoration of my late boyfriend. It considers the impact and pressure that constructs of traditional masculinity place on men, binding them into an unrelenting social contract where self-expression is frowned upon. The pleated paneling is representative of the inescapable cage that men are born into. The use of delicate fabrics materializes the vulnerabilities of emotion, constrained by harsh lines and pressed into rigid structures. The red silk ties woven throughout the garment display the binding nature of the masculine ideal.
