JENNA VANDIVER

"RECLAMATION"
This piece explores the tension between human engineering and nature’s force through innovative textile practice. Central to this piece is the use of a renewable, non-toxic thermoplastic material, manipulated to mimic the brittle, shifting formations of ice along Chicago’s winter shoreline. Shaped directly to the body through heat-forming techniques, the garment becomes a second skin, representing both fragility and resilience. Draped secondhand silk flows alongside the thermoplastic structure, its marbled, oil spill-inspired print echoing the contaminated waters of the lakefront. The organic movement of both materials reflects the unpredictable, living relationship between the city and the lake—a constant push and pull between control and surrender.
