JACKIE FRANKLIN
"DIOR DECO"
These garments were inspired by Christian Dior’s iconic Bar suit from 1947, and the elegance of Art Deco design. Created for my Patternmaking II class, the project focused on construction, leading me to Dior, whose background in architecture shaped his sculptural approach to fashion. I drew influence from the Bar suit's structured silhouette and reimagined it through an Art Deco lens. Box pleats added controlled volume, while exaggerated sleeves, layered collars, and extended cuffs introduced softness and drama. For the pants, I referenced 1920s menswear, designing a voluminous silhouette with classic pleats to complement the tailored, architectural quality of the top.
